Design of Navigil wellbeing wristwatch


Design for the flat age society.

Design was driven by the trend of a flat age society, where consumers are no longer defined by their age, but moved by their attitude. The global population aged 60 years are over numbered 962 million in 2017, more than twice as large as in 1980 when there were 382 million older persons worldwide. The number of older persons is expected to double again by 2050, when it is projected to reach nearly 2.1 billion according to the United Nations. Today, only an age does not define this group of 50+ years. This consumer group has the fastest growing gym membership of any generation according to International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association, and over the next 20 years, spending by people 50+ is expected to increase by 58 percent.

Our goal was to design an timeless wellbeing device, which fits perfectly to different lifestyles and personas. For the CMF (Colors, Materials and Finishing) we researched the market to find general patterns in the consumer behavior. Classical materials, such as antibacterial stainless steel and hypoallergenic leather, were chosen to drive the classic color palette providing a platform for the portfolio. While the general appearance is simple and pared down, the product was designed to offer emotional links between the users and technology through delicate material finishes. 

​Navigil wristwatch and service are designed for individuals looking after their wellbeing and sharing information with the family; and also for them who may need assistance in their day-to-day life. The wristwatch provides safety features and a 24/7 voice connection to family, friends and to emergency services.

Familiarity to the new technology.

The new appealing design extends from B2C to B2B markets opening a new business opportunity. Making the technology familiar, approachable and elegant was a key factor to adapt different age and gender styles including different sized wrists. Combining technology miniaturization to an elegant design makes the watch appearance sleek.

The visual style unifies the digital and physical design – digital elements are an extension of the physical device. The visual style, haptics, graphics and illumination blend into the hardware. Emphasizing readability and usability lead to brand trustworthiness. The digital and physical products are one entity that enforces a strong brand experience.


The device provides features like 4 weeks battery lifetime, voice connection, respiratory rate, heart rate and variability, activity, body temperature and circadian cycle tracking. The elegant design with lifestyle driven variants is an excellent match to the product offering.
