Changing conventions for payment terminal

Aim was to concept the next generation mobile payment terminal with a unique look to fit perfectly to the TOKEN portfolio. The design drivers for BEKO Sardis were best usability with aspirational look and feel. Design and the user interface and interactions are designed to be simple and clutter-free to make payments and other functions with premiumness and efficiency – eventually creating a memorable BEKO brand experience.

Driven by research – Two displays, one canvas. Omuus conducted field studies in different markets observing and analyzing the payment process in retail spaces. Two displays are giving the efficiency to the payment process, to enable intuitive and smooth interactions between merchant and the customer.

According to the payment industry study there is also a need to shorten the timeframe for merchants and their employees to learn new payment systems, thus the familiarity and approachable technology design was key to meet this success criteria.

The higher end retail spaces were one of the specific needs that arise during the observation. The device design was designed to adapt to various brand spaces and the material driven design was elemental to achieve that goal.

Result – bold brand statement and design that was awarded by the prestigious CES 2019 Honorary award.
