Eräs Milanon ajatuksia herättävin ja inspiroivin näyttely on ehdottomasti Colour One for Mini by Scholten & Baijings. Hollantilainen suunnittelijaduo Stefan Scholten & Carole Baijings tunnetaan maailmanlaajuisesti työstään, joka liikkuu sulavasti designin ja taiteen rajapinnassa. Olemme seuranneet heidän työtään jo vuosien ajan ja ihailemme heidän ennakkoluulotonta ja hyvin analyyttistä suunnitteluprosessiaan. Scholten & Baijing purkivat Minin osiin ja kokosivat sen uudestaan. Auton ovet ovat näytteillä erillään ja niiden pinta on peitetty kolmiulotteisella kultatekstuurilla, mattapintaisella maalilla tai fluorisoivilla liukuväreillä. Penkit ja turvavyöt on päällystetty geometriseen tekstuuriin kullan ja pinkin väreissä. Kojelauta hohkaa syvän punaisena ja renkaista on tullut läpikuultavia. Näyttelyä täydentää Scholten & Baijingsin tutkimusmateriaali, joka sisältää väri- ja materiaalinäytteitä sekä inspiroivia esineitä ja kuvia luomisprosessista.
Tämä ei ole ensimmäinen kerta BMW:lle tehdä yhteistyötä ulkopuolisten designereiden ja luovien ammattilaisten kanssa. Yhteistyö on heille keino edistää luovuutta ja löytää uusia näkökulmia perinteiseen autosuunnitteluun. Scholten & Baijingsin ennakkoluuloton tutkimus tuo Minin designtiimille inspiraatiota varmasti vuosiksi eteenpäin. Ja kuten Carole Baijings toteaa inspiraatio voi leviätä myös kauemmas. One of the most thought-provoking and inspiring exhibitions at Milan Design Week is the Colour One for Mini by Scholten & Baijings. The dutch design duo Stefan Scholten & Carole Baijings are known worldwide for their creations that sit somewhere between design and art. We’ve followed their work for years and just admire their open-minded and analytical creation process. Scholten & Baijings stripped the Mini to its core and then reconstructed it according to their vision. The doors are displayed separately with three-dimensional golden textures, matt porcelain paint finish or gradual fluorescent colors. The seats and seat belts have been lined with fabrics in gold and soft pink geometrics. The dashboard glows in lush red and the tires have become transparent. The exhibition is accompanied by the designers’ body of research containing color and material samples along with inspiring objects and images from the creative process behind the installation.
This is not the first time BMW has collaborated with external designers and creative professionals. Collaborations is a way for BMW to foster creative exchange and discover new aspects that go beyond conventional automotive design. Scholten & Baijing’s exploration will surely bring inspiration to the Mini design team for years to come. And as Carole Baijings states, inspiration can spread even outside automotive.
