We’ve posted about this man before. See the beautiful ‘Transiense‘ mirrors he created with David Derksen. For us the most intriguing part is Lex Pott’s process. He begins each project by studying the material, experimenting with its characteristics. Gradually this research takes him to a conclusion of both the form and colour of the object. Pott’s latest project ‘True Colours’ was a careful experimentation and research into the oxidization of copper, aluminum and steel; a quest to discover their true colours. We’re looking forward to see his next project. And we have to add his chemistry set looks splendid fun.
Pott explains: “When an element like copper is found in nature it has a green colour. Iron has an orange / brown colour when being found inside the earth. Oxidized metal surfaces create colours that provide information about a material. The palette is a reaction with the base material. Therefore the coloured surfaces have an organic growth of colour and not every colour is possible on every surface.”
